Dance and Evensong

Updated for May 2023: Last two Sundays are on!

As I mentioned before, we will not be able to do Dance and Evensong at our normal location this month.  However, I would really like to do it, somehow.  As a result, I would like to try something new this month.  I'd like to try Dance and Evensong in the Park.  Bicentennial Park in Pantego, that is.  I'll provide a link at the bottom.  This will be something of an experiment as I've never done one in the open.  I don't know how crowded the park is.  There seems to be plenty of covered areas, so I am hopeful this will work out. It could even be a great way to reach out to people that would not normally come.  Perhaps unbelievers or barely-believers will be curious at our dancing and join in.  The plan is to meet at the normal time, 5pm, dance till around 6:30, order pizza, eat for a little while, then hold Evening Prayer.  Since it's an experiment, I don't plan to bring a keyboard.  EvenSong that's just said instead of sung is called Evening Prayer.  Here are some more details:

Dates: Rest of the Sunday evenings, May 21st & 28th

Time: 5pm - 8pm

Location: Bicentennial Park, Pantego

Addr: 3206 Smith Barry Rd, Pantego, TX 76013

Activities: Dance, Pizza, Evening Prayer

Note1: It'll be warm, so dress appropriately

Note2: Bring water.  Would be helpful if someone brought a cooler of water bottles in ice

Note3:  I can't tell you ahead of time where in the park I'll be.  You'll have to look.  Shouldn't be hard to find unless there's another dancing group there with the instructor in collar?

Note4: Bring a USB personal fan and perhaps an external battery to keep it going for you.

Note5: To join the WhatsApp for this group, click on this link.  Then you can text me when you get to the park if you want help to find me.

Let me introduce you to Dance and Evensong.  It’s designed to provide a new opportunity for dance for Christian young people, while at the same time be an outreach to believers and barely-believers.  The basic idea is that on a Sunday evening we will have a dance (this will hopefully attract a good number of young people), then pizza (who doesn’t like that?), and then a special service called Evensong.  Evensong is an Anglican service sometimes called it’s crown jewel.  It’s beautiful, not too long, and the liturgy and prayers are all biblically-focused.  I’ve already been practicing with a small choir to help lead in singing.

LocationDallas International University/International Liguistics Center

Addr7500 W Camp Wisdom Road, Dallas (See parking instructions below)

Date: Sunday, April 2

Times:

  • 5:00pm - 6:30: Dance
  • 6:30 - 7:00: Pizza & dance
  • 7:00 – 7:45: Evensong
  • 7:45 - 8:00: Reset room.

Cost: Free.  If you can spring $5/person for pizza, it would be helpful, but not required.  Come if you’re poor; pay if you’re able.

Dance Attendees: The dancing is focused for junior high, high school, and college.  Each should dance with their age-appropriate partner.  No dates required; I will match up those who come as singles (which I hope will be a considerable number).

Evensong attendees All ages.  Families come with all children; everyone needs to hear the gospel.  Adults please join in.

Masks: None required.

Parking instructions:

  1. Turn in from Camp Wisdom Rd.
  2. Quickly in front of you will be a building.  Turn right.
  3. Follow the road as it winds around past an open gate to the back of the building.  You should see a large parking lot.
  4. Turn right into the parking lot and drive straight to the back toward the Event Center building
  5. Park near Event Center.
  6. You should see a series of wide steps that lead down to the Event Center.
  7. Enter it.

Dances will be the normal ones we do: Swing, Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, and English Country.

Invite as many friends as you think are interested.  A big idea for DAE is to attract unbelievers and barely-believers so they can hear the gospel.  It will not be high-intensity manipulation, just a simple exposition of Scripture and a gospel presentation of what Christ has promised to all who believe on Him.
